About the event

Why rice matters for our climate
Rice is a staple food for billions, yet its production has significant climate and social impacts, accounting for up to 10% of global agricultural emissions, with a climate footprint on par with the aviation industry. This is why transforming how we grow rice is essential to fighting climate change and building resilient food systems.
The International Sustainable Rice Forum (ISRF) 2025 focuses on practical pathways to sustainable rice production and trade.
The forum highlights methods and approaches that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support farmer livelihoods and meet market requirements for sustainability and assurance.
The event is organised by Preferred by Nature, the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP), Rikolto and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). It is held as part of the Low Carbon Rice project, funded by the EU SWITCH-Asia Grants Programme and implemented by Preferred by Nature in collaboration with Indonesian partners Koalisi Rakyat untuk Kedaulatan Pangan (KRKP) and the Indonesia Rice Millers and Traders Association (PERPADI).
