Dr. Prakashan Chellattan Veettil is a senior agricultural & behavioural economist at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), where he leads research on sustainable rice systems, food markets, and the behavioral and institutional drivers of technology adoption in South Asia. His work bridges food systems, market intelligence, and sustainability, focusing on how evidence-based interventions can strengthen climate resilience, reduce emissions, and enhance farmer livelihoods across rice-based systems. He currently leads the Kerala Alternate Wetting and Drying (KERA–AWD) initiative, which catalyzes the transition toward low-emission and water-efficient rice systems through digital monitoring, stakeholder partnerships, and policy engagement. His research portfolio spans impact evaluation, water governance, and the design of incentives that align farm-level innovation with broader food system sustainability. Dr. Veettil has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on agricultural policy, climate adaptation, and value chain transformation, and plays an active role in connecting research, policy, and market actors to advance a more resilient and sustainable rice sector in South Asia.
